How much bandwidth do you actually need?
Not sure which plan fits your station? Enter your bitrate, listening time, and expected audience — we'll estimate your monthly bandwidth and recommend the right package.
What affects your bandwidth usage
Three variables control how much data your station streams each month.
Bitrate
Higher bitrates deliver cleaner audio but eat more bandwidth. 128 kbps is the sweet spot for most radio stations — sounds great without ballooning your usage.
Listening Time
More hours tuned in = more data. A listener who sticks around for a full show uses many times the bandwidth of one who stops by briefly.
Concurrent Listeners
The biggest factor. Each simultaneous listener consumes your bandwidth at full bitrate — plan for your peak, not your average.
Bandwidth questions
How accurate is this calculator?
It gives you a worst-case estimate based on every listener staying connected for the full period. Real-world usage is typically lower because listeners tune in and out. Use this as your upper bound when choosing a plan.
What happens if I exceed my bandwidth?
We notify you before you hit your limit and help you upgrade smoothly. We don't throttle or cut off your stream without warning. Our Pro plan includes unlimited bandwidth if you want to never think about it again.
What bitrate should I use?
128 kbps works for most music stations and sounds excellent to listeners. Go up to 192 or 256 kbps for high-fidelity content. 64 kbps or lower works well for talk radio to save bandwidth.
Do I pay per listener?
No — all our plans include a set number of listener slots and a monthly bandwidth allowance. You don't pay per connection.
Can I upgrade later if my audience grows?
Absolutely. You can upgrade listener capacity, bandwidth, or features at any time from your dashboard — no downtime.
