Have a question about getting up & broadcasting?
Technically - no. You do not need a licence to broadcast content via the internet. However, if you're broadcasting copyrighted content, you will need to ensure you register to pay royalites to those who created the content. We can help guide you in the right direction with this.
You can get up & running with only a few pieces of basic equipment, some of which you may already have. All you need is a laptop, an internet connection, and a microphone!
Both are forms of broadcasting software, they each have their own advantages. Icecast is an open-source piece of software, whereas SHOUTcast is closed-source and commercialised. We recommend using Icecast wherever possible.
You should ensure you use music from reputable sources such as iTunes or Amazon Music. Though, you can also use music from DJ Pools and other legal sources.
